HOW TO SHIM

Shims are used to change and fine tune the characteristic of the foil to different riders needs. You can change stability, agility and the position where you have to stand on the board at different speeds.

We have 3 different shims.

-1° Shim     +1° Shim     +2° Shim

INSTALL

Simply unscrew the stabilizer wing and insert the desired shim angle between the drive section and the stabilizer wing be sure to tighten the screws accordingly.

RIDE

Shimming with negative degrees makes the foils more stable but this also means you have ti shift your weight more to the front of the board when changing speed and have to stand more forward when riding fast.

Shimming with positive degrees reduces the lift of the foil and therefore the foot position on the board is more central of even backwards above the foil. In general, the maneuverability will get more agile.

Our standard setup with the Freeride 1350 wing and stabilizer 400 is very stable. After the first learning and settling in phase we recommend using +1° or +2° shim to move your foot position more backwards to have more agility and accelerate and decelerate easily.

The -1° shim is intended to be used with the smaller wing set (1000+380 or 900+300) if you want ti have a bit more stability. Experienced riders my even want to have less and use positive shims there as well.
